To startle sunrays
jar them off their way
force them
to rebound
there is a russet elk
on a hill shining
green and red stripes
of a trout
a hawk up high
rain on pines
a prismic dew on raspberries
—something to shatter light
drop it
like broken bulbs
on an oak floor
aspen leaves shaking
rays around
sending them swirling
a flurry of
hot summer snowflakes.
