Writing Style 4

I had planned to do only three writing-style guides, but as I taught my editing classes, I discovered how much my students would benefit from a comprehensive statement with exercises about choosing appropriate words. I am completing my fiftieth year of teaching writing and editing, and in that time I have become acutely aware of the importance of an attention to word selection. The exercises and explanations in the guide grow out of my reading and evaluating many thousands of student papers and of our conferences when we discussed why a certain word was chosen. I provide guidelines and advice to aid editors and writers in making the most appropriate selection for a given piece of writing.
